The Sh*t |Insert Type of Person Here| Say Meme

Posted on

Memes are an interesting little phenomenon – I love how quickly they can take off, like how a video one day can have zero views and the next day have over a million views.
The most recent meme to catch on like wild fire is the “Shit |INSERT TYPE OF PERSON HERE| Say” meme.
It started with “Shit Girls Say,” which was followed by “Shit Black Girls Say” which was followed by “Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls,” which was then followed by all sorts of derivatives, including the great “Shit New Yorkers Say – “You have to go to Brooklyn, it’s the law!” though I love the Pat shout outs as well – and the not so great “Shit Long Islanders Say.”
Not one type of person has been spared this meme’s wrath. Not Rednecks. Not Hippies. Not gays. Not lesbians. You name it. No one. And this all happened in the span of a few weeks. Amazing.
One organization that is jumping on the meme bandwagon is Americans Elect, which Media Bistro basically said made this meme jump the shark. Check out their Sh*t Politicians Say video below:

Pixel Perfect

When you receive a video from two different people who found it on two different sites, you know its probably going to be good. That’s what happened today with the video “Pixels” by Patrick Jean which is embedded below.
First, I received an email from a friend with a subject line that read “Very cool video” but I was too busy to watch. Then, later while at work, I received a company-wide email that was sent by a co-worker which only had a subject line that read “Pixels.” Someone responded a few minutes later with “That was dope” so I watched and agreed – it was dope. After watching the video, I then went back to my buddy’s email and sure enough, it was a link to the same thing.
So, check out the video below and let me know what is your favorite part. Mine is the Tetris scene. ‘Nuff said.

Africa – Acapella Style

Posted on

A friend sent me a link to a song by Perpetuum Jazzile that is up on YouTube. Who are they? Well, they are the only Slovenian jazz choir, are conducted by its artistic director Tomaž Kozlevčar and are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.
Their repertoire consists of an ear-catching selection of vocal jazz and pop, like “Africa” by Toto, which is what I was sent. The song is almost secondary to the amazing way that they create “rain” at the beginning – you have to hear it to believe it. Even the writer of the song loves it. The band posted this email below from David Paich, the aforementioned writer:

Greetings!
My name is David Paich. When I wrote Africa I never dreamed of hearing such an innovative rendition. All I can say is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am truly honored that you not only would arrange a choir version of the song but the time and effort into creating REAL MAGIC! I have NEVER received so many emails from artists friends and colleagues on a singular performance of a song.
My hats off to all of you.
I know my co-writer Jeff Porcaro would have shared the same feelings. I know my band TOTO does.
Again, thanks you for such a wonderful gift.I would love to meet everyone sometime soon and maybe work together.
Regards………David

You don’t believe me, or him, then listen to the clip below. Enjoy!

"Shoes"

After being fearful about America’s future in space, I thought “why not relax and watch a funny movie?” My sister crashed in my apartment the other night and brought knowledge of a great video with her. It’s pretty dumb and funny, sort of like a cross between Right Said Fred and RuPaul.
Enjoy!

"OK Go" Have Fun This Weekend

Posted on

Enough doom and gloom for the week. I have been meaning to post this awesome clip of the group OK Go performing its song “Here It Goes Again” using synchronized treadmills. They did it in one take and its ridiculous – I especially like when they “swim” or “skate” from the back to the front – plus its a jazzy song too. Happy Friday!

What Time is the Next Watershow? Someone should put up a sign…

Posted on

For a few weeks now, I’ve wanted to post video clips to my site like others have (Chris, etc) but thought I needed a plug-in. Silly me. Turns out there is object code at the bottom of each video clip page, at least on YouTube, and I just never happened to scroll before. I am an idiot.
It makes me think of my favorite Snickers commercial, the one where a mascot at a Sea World type water park answers questions about “what time the next watershow is it” standing next to a sign that answers that very question. I’m going to try and find that clip and post it – I’m sure its on some ad lovers site.
Anywho, Mr. Colbert has been getting lots of press about his recent roast of Le Prez and I thought that posting the first part would be a great way of taking this blog to the next level:

In related news, here is an NY Times article about the Blogosphere’s reaction to this occurance.

I Get It Now

Okay, so I’m a little dense sometimes and didn’t exactly understand why NBC lawyers were making YouTube take down those awesome SNL video clips. I just thought they were being idiots and making potential fans angry which was the simple answer if you didn’t want to really think about it and instead just wanted to make fun of those corporate honchos who just don’t get it. Now NBC.com has a video section where you can watch those clips. Over time, NBC is hoping to create a thriving site with community features like message boards, blogs and video sharing–similar to MySpace, but around the NBC brand.

The GeigerPod

This GeigerPod, an iPod inside of a Geiger counter, is simply fantastic. I love when people hack one device and make another one out of it, like when people turned their XBox’s into Linux machines or when Chris made a rechargable iPod battery out of an Altoids tin. Check out the entire Flikr set of the retrofitted counter. I say well done JavaMoose!
