Something I Will Not Be Doing

Posted on

ManBabies is one of the most ridiculous web sites I’ve seen in a long, long time. The concept is simple: using Photoshop you manipulate a picture that has a father and child in it by swapping their heads. The result is often not only funny but sort of disturbing – like the one below:
ManBabies.com - Dad?
As some know, I became a father for the first time last week. I solemnly promise that you will not be seeing any pictures of me and my girl on that site any time soon.

Fool

Posted on

This past Tuesday, I carried out an elaborate April’s Fool Joke while at my client’s office for a meeting. I was told via a text message from a co-worker that Client A wrote him to say that it was Client B’s birthday. Since it was April’s Fool Day, either it was or it wasn’t, but me being me I decided to err on the side of caution because if I was wrong, it was April Fools Day and it would be hysterical – I mean, I was with them both all day long.
So, I stole away from the work session and somehow managed to buy 6 donuts, a birthday card and trick candles from stores located in their office complex. I then walked back into their executive board room singing, candle aflame. The prodigious smoke from the trick candle almost set off their smoke alarm which would have made the entire joke even more priceless. At the end of the song, I looked at the client who I thought had set the whole shebang up. She blankly looked at me as if I was mad yet funnily charming.
I thought I was helping one client punk another. Turns out my own co-workers had me punk myself. I felt like Jeff Bridges in his car at the end of Arlington Road. If you haven’t seen the movie, see it. I found the story compelling.
Upon arriving back at the office, I received a hero’s welcome of sorts, for everyone was quite pleased with the way they had set me up. Their used my own good nature against me for I cannot help being who I am and they knew it. They also knew I could laugh about it, which I did and which I am – case in point, I’m sharing the story with you here.
Other good April’s Fool’s Day jokes this year were Google Custom Time and YouTube’s redirect all links from its front page to a video of Rick Astley’s 1987 hit Never Gonna Give You Up.

I never knew Numberwang! or its cousin Wordwang! existed before today. They are game shows whose host and contestants are both on another level from you or me – watch and see.

Thoughts On Small Screen Movies

Posted on

David Lynch and I are on the same page regarding watching things made for the big screen on a small screen:

Forget about movies, I think that watching TV on a small screen (phone, portable DVD player, etc) sucks too. If its made for the visual medium, it should be seen in a way that you don’t have to squint.

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other

The other night, certain disaster was only narrowly avoided. Check out the two Duane Reade generic pill bottles below:

ibu_stool.jpg

Why the hell do these two bottles have matching yellow fonts and typefaces along with the same sort of blue / teal background?! I went for some medicine because my back was sore. If I happened to take the wrong pill, not only would my back still have been sore but my ass would have joined it on the list. Luckily for me, my wife’s keen eye sight, along with her utter disbelief that I needed help in the turd procurement department, saved me from some unhappy times. Then again, maybe I would have caught up on some reading.

Lateral Mania

Posted on

When watching and listening to the clip below, I just kept envisioning Rob Schneider’s character from Necessary Roughness announcing the game. This clip has gotten so much press that the NYT wrote about the student announcer Jonathan Wiener (who did a fantastic job keeping up with the frenetic action on the field).
In case you were wondering, a lateral according to Webster is both defined as “directed toward, or coming from the side” when used as an adjective or “a pass in football thrown parallel to the line of scrimmage or in a direction away from the opponent’s goal” when used as a noun.
Enjoy watching about 15 of them below.

Cute Guns

When a frequent reader sent me a link to a Hello Kitty Assault Rifle yesterday, I knew immediately I had to post it. Its just so damn cute:

Hello-Kitty-Assault-Rifle_4.jpg

The gun comes from a site called GlamGuns which is full of ridiculous guns, like the gun above and one called “My Little Carbine.” Lovely.
Before you start to get too freaked out about the next school shooting happening in a pre-K class, if you read the fine print, you’ll see “NOTE: This site is a parody for humor purposes only. No actual weapons may be bought on this site.” Furthermore, if you try to buy a gun, you’ll get sent to Amazon where you can buy a book called A Theory of Parody: The Teachings of Twentieth-Century Art Form whose premise is that “parody is a genre fundamental to 20th century art forms.” The author’s intro states, “Parody is not a new phenomenon by any means, but its ubiquity in all the arts of this century has seemed to me to necessitate a reconsideration of both its nature and its function.”

Window CE + ME + NT = VISTA

For those who have a few minutes for a geeky laugh, check out the video below. My favorite part of “Vista Sucks” is when the announcer says, “From the company that taught you to turn off the computer by clicking the start button.” Enjoy.
2013 UPDATE: the video mentioned above has been removed due to a copyright issue – a photo used in it is actually a rights managed photo and I’ve taken the video down per a request from Getty Images.

Be Obsequious, Purple, and Clairvoyant

Posted on

I read the word “ubiquity” in a presentation today and immediately “be obsequious, purple, and clairvoyant” popped into my mind. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, its a line from The Grandmother’s Song by Steve Martin. I love it – it starts off quite simple and then gets progressively weirder and funnier each stanza – but its best hearing it for yourself. It’s on his “Let’s Get Small” album which is terribly funny from start to finish. Try not to laugh when listening to it. I dare you.
